Matthew Vander Kooi
(PT, DPT)
Matthew Vander Kooi earned his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Washington State University, where he worked closely with the Exercise Physiology and Human Performance departments. This early immersion in biomechanics and performance sparked his passion for optimizing human movement and rehabilitation. He went on to earn his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Midwestern University in 2019.
Matthew specializes in the management of orthopedic injuries, integrating precise manual therapy with corrective movement training to restore proper alignment and efficient movement patterns. Influenced by the Barral Institute’s principles of tissue mobility and barrier remodeling, his hands-on approach emphasizes gently addressing the body’s first restrictive barrier before progressing deeper — allowing for meaningful structural change while minimizing symptom provocation.
Rather than chasing symptoms, Matthew focuses on resolving underlying biomechanical dysfunction to improve resilience, durability, and long-term performance.
He has treated orthopedic populations across Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, and military service communities, and has a particular interest in helping active individuals return to high levels of function — whether in daily life, tactical settings, or competitive training.
Outside the clinic, Matthew enjoys exploring the outdoors, spending time with his family, and training in competitive weightlifting.
